Lockout opens new opportunities

I like the NFL. I like college football, I like high school football, I like Arena Football and I like its disowned relative indoor football.

I suspect I’d like Canadian Football, I probably would watch the United Football League. Because its my job, I am at d3football game practically every weekend.

That’s not to mention every possible form of professional and amateur sports live, in person or on tape-delay. We’ll just go somewhere else.

Maybe, I am in the minority, I suspect I am not the exception. A NFL shutdown doesn’t bother me. It’s not like we don’t have other alternatives.

I don’t want to see it go. The NFL is probably the greatest sports product in the history of mankind.

But, it’s not like we can’t live without it. And maybe the super corporations, that is the NFL owners, and small, one-man operations, the players, don’t understand, or don’t care. I suspect both.

When you go to your favorite restaurant on a packed Friday, you can’t get in. You go somewhere else. Maybe it’s that new place you’ve heard about. Maybe it’s going home to cook. But, do you stop eating, of course not.

We’ll still have plenty of fantasy football in some way or another. Gamblers will still find something to bet on. Us media types will still cover something.

Let’s be real, the adults among us don’t lack options. Maybe this will give us a chance to finally clean the garage, to finish that project.

Maybe even just spend time with our family or friends and we finally invest our time and money in people who really can benefit from it.

..but, I could be wrong.
